Dr Shaun McGrath is a senior Visiting Medical Officer in the Department of Endocrinology at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. He graduated with Honours from UNSW in 1992 and gained his FRACP in 1999. He is a busy clinical endocrinologist in private practice with particular expertise in thyroid and parathyroid disease. He runs a dedicated thyroid biopsy clinic and performs all the preoperative parathyroid localisation ultrasound for the Hunter region prior to surgery. He has facilitated thyroid ultrasound workshops and lectured on thyroid ultrasound for the ESA and manages over 250 thyroid cancer patients. His recent audits include “Clinical Implications of the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytology in 1122 patients” and the “Accuracy of preoperative localisation with ultrasound and sestamibi scientigraphy in 139 patients from a single centre.”
