Dr Ann Poynten is Senior Staff Specialist and Clinical Director of Prince of Wales Hospital Diabetes Centre and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. She has published in the areas of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Since Dr Poynten’s appointment, the POWH Diabetes Centre has focused on expanding the type 1 diabetes services and improving the transition of adolescents with type 1 diabetes from the Sydney Children’s Hospital. We continue to provide specialised services for people with type 2 diabetes who have complex medical problems and in hospital care of patients with diabetes. At POWH Hospital we run a multidisciplinary high risk foot clinic, specialising in patients with difficult to heal foot ulcers. POWH Diabetes Centre conducts independent medical research. Current research projects at the Diabetes Centre have including new methods for the early diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We value our close ties to the General Practitioners in our area.
