Sophia Zoungas

Prof Sophia Zoungas is an academic endocrinologist with a national and international reputation as a leading clinician and researcher in the field of diabetes. She is Professorial Chair of Diabetes, Vascular Health and Ageing, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, a NH&MRC Senior Research Fellow and current President of the Australian Diabetes Society. Prof Zoungas is a senior staff specialist in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Monash Health, Victoria where she provides consultative services within an inpatient and outpatient setting. Her research focus is on the generation and implementation of the best evidence for the prevention, screening and management of diabetes and vascular diseases, and the impact of these on the ageing population. In addition to a strong record of publications (overall 131, total citations over 4900) and grant success (more than 8 million peer reviewed in the last 5 years), Professor Zoungas has made over 40 presentations at major national and international meetings in the last 5 years and received significant awards including the Henry Burger Prize for the best research publication, Monash Health rising star award and Monash University mid-career research award.
