Dr Dana Bliuc, PhD, MSc (Med), MD is a clinical epidemiologist who worked for over 15 years on uncovering the severe consequences of osteoporosis. She is currently holding a Senior Research Officer position at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Dana’s research interests lie in investigating the long-term adverse events of recurrent fractures and premature mortality associated with fracture and their interactions with fracture site and the health status at the time of fracture. By examining these risks, the goal of her research is to improve the clinical outcomes of patients by improving early detection in high-risk individuals. Dana is also interested in investigating the complex associations between osteoporosis cognition and dementia. By examining these links, the aim is to enhance the understanding of these complex health issues and improve early detection which is particularly important in these two very common, debilitating but silent conditions. In addition, Dana is interested in investigating the intricate associations between osteoporosis and multimorbidity. This research is geared to uncovering the best treatment options for people with other chronic conditions to offer insights into personalised approaches to fracture management.
